Lesson Thirty-Six: Recycling Part Two
Today we’re going to do a little refresher on recycling. 🤓♻️
Honestly, recycling is so complex and weird that it’s hard to keep track of all the time. There are different types of materials, different collection methods, and different rules - and if that’s not complicated enough, the way cities recycle and what they accept changes from region to region!
Let’s look at some recycling stumbling blocks and see how we can dispose of them properly. Answer the quizzes for the items below to find out the correct answer on how to dispose of them properly:
Here are a few tips and tricks for recycling:
All plastic has a number based on its type (see my cheat sheet here)
Numbers usually appear on the bottom of plastics inside a little triangle. Eg. ♳
Always rinse your containers to avoid contamination
All dark/black plastics go in the garbage as recycling sensors do not pick them up
When in doubt, check TO’s Waste Wizard
🚨REMEMBER🚨
👉 Recycling is a BUSINESS for cities
👉 The more a city can collect and clean, the more it can sell (if there are enough buyers)
👉 The larger the municipality, the more it will accept in it’s recycling programs (so it can sell off in higher volumes to buyers)
Recycling can be SO weird and complicated! If you have any tips or if you have any questions, please let me know!
It makes my day when I hear from you! 💚
